I currently serve as an Associate Professor of Structural Engineering at Sahand University of Technology and have supervised and managed research at all levels from MSc, through PhD to nationally sponsored research. 

 

My Principal research interests lie in the filed of Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics. They include

 

 

I am the director of Earthquake Research Center of the University and the deputy head of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. During my career I have authored and co-authored over fifty peer-reviewed research articles published in the leading engineering journals and prominent conferences. I am a member of advisory board of Civil and Environmental Engineering Journal and head of organizing committee of the “1st International Conference on Urban Construction in the Vicinity of Active Faults” which is going to be held in summer 2011. I am also a member of scientific committee of several international conferences and professional societies including American Society of Civil Engineers (M.ASEC). I am frequently invited to judge the work of others in my field by high-status journals and conferences. In 2002, I was awarded the Wales Branch prize by the Institution of Structural Engineers of the United Kingdom for the best invited paper of the year. In 2010, I won the best lecturer award of the faculty which is selected based on the teaching and research quality together with the result of student evaluation forms.

Producing the technical information on a new grade of reinforcing steel produced by Celsa Steel (UK) to customers, and also to designers, in order to distinguish the Celsa product from competitors, and to enable designers to make the best use of the improved properties inherent in the new grade.

 

 

2000-2004             PhD "Global vibration analysis of symmetric and asymmetric high rise buildings"

The thesis presents two global analysis approaches to the calculation of the natural frequencies of high rise buildings. The structures are proportional and their component members are repeated at each storey level unless there is a step change of properties. Within this scope many geometric configurations can be encompassed, ranging from uniform structures with doubly symmetric floor plans to doubly asymmetric ones comprising plane frame and wall structures running in two orthogonal directions.

AWARDS

 

§         PhD Scholarship by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of Iran. The Scholarship is awarded once a year via a very competitive assessment of Iranian national examination board and also evaluation of educational background of candidates. (Only about ten people were selected all over the country)

§         The prize winner of the Institution of Structural Engineers (ISE), Wales, UK, (2002) for the best invited paper of the year titled "Global Analysis of Structures"

§         Postdoctoral Research Associateship on the assessment of a new grade of reinforcing steel awarded by the Celsa Steel (UK)

§         Funding award for two research projects with the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology

§         Top Academic Board member award of the year 2010 of the faculty of civil engineering of Sahand University of Technology based on the teaching and research quality assessment by the faculty and students .

o        Design of steel structures based on the American Institute of Steel Construction Code (AISC)

  • Associate Member of Iranian Earthquake Engineering Association (IEEA) According to the regulations of IEEA, this is the highest level of membership that one can achieve.
  • Full Member of East Azerbaijan Civil Engineering Council Organization since 1990. My membership started as rank 3 and during last twenty years has been upgraded to the highest level of membership i.e. rank 1.
  • Member of education committee of East Azerbaijan Civil Engineering Council Organization. This membership was approved by the board of directors of the organization on 03 February 2007.
  • Member of consultants’ board of Journal of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Tabriz University. This Journal is the most highly regarded Journal in the filed of Civil Engineering in northwest of the country.
  • Member of the Construction and Civil Engineering Council of Sahand University of Technology. This committee establishes the construction policy of the university and makes sure that the development plan of the university progresses based on the approved plan. The chancellor of the university chairs the committee.
